Superior Court

Civil and criminal cases are heard in Superior Court.

Civil cases heard in Superior Court are sometimes with or without a jury.

All felony cases and misdemeanors/infraction appeals from District Court are heard in Superior Court.

In some criminal cases heard in Superior Court, the judge presides over jury trials that consist of 12 citizens who render a verdict. A defendant can waive the right to a jury trial and request a bench trial with the judge presiding without a jury.

Most appeals from Superior Court are heard by the North Carolina Court of Appeals.

EXPERIENCE MATTERS

With six years as a prosecutor and fourteen years of criminal defense and domestic litigation, I have represented hundreds of clients in all areas of Criminal Law and Family Law. This included both jury and bench trials. Problem solving is required daily in assisting clients with navigating very difficult and complex situations that affect their lives. Having practiced in front of many judges, in different counties, I understand that patience, civility, and respect is needed and required for both sides regardless of the situation or case. If elected as a Superior Court Judge, I will bring all of those attributes to the bench.
